Happy Mothers Day...at 'The Edible Garden Show'

Well it's Mothers day for all of those in the United Kingdom today and so I treated my Mum this weekend to a day out at 'The Edible Garden Show'. I don't know if any of you know anything about it but feel free to check out the link. Apparently it has run for a couple of years now but this is the first time I have heard of it. We had a lovely day out albeit very tiring with all the walking around!! Freebies were everywhere so I managed to bag a few seeds and also seeds were on offer at trade prices on a lot of stalls. I picked up quite a bit of information on manures, wormeries composts and such as well as meeting some people from the NSALG. I even bought a few things and really enjoyed the talk by James Wong on growing your own spices and herbs, a couple of which I managed to purchase at t

Sneak peek at menu items at 8*twelve, the Rodgers-Braun restaurant

Interest has been high in 8*twelve MVP Bar & Grill, the Brookfield restaurant the SURG group is opening with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun. (The venture was announced Monday.) So, what's on the menu? The restaurant will serve its interpretation of American classics with some Wisconsin touches, such as butter burgers on house-made pretzel rolls ($12) and Wisconsin-raised, heritage-breed pork chop with pastrami seasoning, red cabbage and grain-mustard spaetzle ($23). Look for some of the menu items to be prepared in a wood-fired oven. 8*twelve is expected to open in late June at 17800 W. Sour CherryTart

x Last weekend, I visited Berry Patch Farm for the first time. Berry Patch is a working farm located in Brighton, Colorado. They grow an insane amount of vegetables, but they are perhaps best known as the Denver metro areas most convenient berry-picking location. They have strawberries, raspberries (in red, but also *swoon* black and gold, too), and even sour cherry trees! I spent a good 2 hours picking 4 quarts of cherries, with only the company of the soulful, sultry voice of Mr. James Vincent McMorrow on my iPod, and the sun on my back. It was glorious to do something other than stare at a computer all day just to be outside, enjoying the good weather. I enjoyed it so much I went back this past weekend to pick raspberries. And Im thinking about going again this weekend to pick

Kitchenette Red Velvet - Scrumptious Photography

A couple of friends and I went to Kitchenette the other day for lunch. Besides being the cutest place in existence, kind of like if Anthropologie opened a diner, the food was delicious! I had the Downtowner sandwich, which is highly recommended (can't really go wrong when garlic mayo is involved). We were also sitting right by the dessert case, so we basically spent the entire time staring at it, trying to choose just one thing to get. Of course, I couldn't pick just one, so I ended up getting a cherry dessert bar and a red velvet cupcake. The cherry bar didn't last very long, but I managed to save the cupcake long enough to take a few photos. How could I not, when they packaged it in this Chinese takeout container?? (Like I said... cutest place ever.) The cupcake was so moist and deliciou

Sweet Cherry SlabPie

Nothing is better than a freshly baked pie for a summer cookout, especially if it can be made into a perfectly portable dessert like this incredible slab pie. I have had my eye on making a slab pie ever since I stumbled upon it over at Smitten Kitchen a few years ago. So when Andrew and I were invited to another 4th of July cookout last weekend, I knew exactly what I was going to bring. It was a huge hit! Everyone loved that you didnt need to fumble with plates or forks to eat this pie. I used my favorite cherry pie filling recipe from Cooks illustrated. It uses an unusual ingredient in the fillingplums! The plums are used to tame the cherries sweetness and get them to break down into a wonderful juicy texture as well as letting us cut back on the amount of sugar that was neede

PastaQueen | I bet the buffet costs more now

September 7, 2007 at 1:36 pm I want some Mr. Gattis pizza. Which is odd because I havent even thought about Mr. Gattis pizza for 10 years and their regular pizza is fairly mediocre. The best reason to go to Mr. Gattis was their dessert pizzas Dutch Apple Treat, Very Cherry Dessert, and Chocolate Crme mmmm. I cant recall ever having the Coconut Crme pizza, but after looking at the photo on their website Id like to rectify that oversight. I could go for some cinnamon sticks too. Mr. Gattis is a southeastern chain of pizza restaurants, so those of you who dont have a drawl probably havent eaten there or even heard of the place. I lived in Louisville, Kentucky during my middle school and high school years. During field trips our school bus would pull up i
