Spiced Apple CiderCaramels

There are few things more pleasurable than biting into a chewy, creamy, melt-in-your-mouth homemade caramel. Using delicious apple cider and favorite fall spices, these caramels are sure to be a hit with your family. If you have never made caramels, you are in for a treat! The most important tool you need for making perfect caramel candies is a good candy thermometer with a metal clip so you can clip it to the side of the pot. Accuracy in the cooking temperature is important, so it is also a good idea to check the accuracy of the thermometer by placing it in a pot of boiling water. The temperature should read 212 degrees F (100 degrees C). Dont worry if your thermometer is off by a couple of degrees, just remember to adjust the recipe temperature. Make sure when you are using the thermo

Apple Tarte Tatin - Playing House

This time of year is perfect for celebrating with apples and honey. To mark the occasion, I improvised with a play on that theme: a Tarte Tatin with Tangy Whipped Cream. Tarte Tatin is a traditional French caramel-y apple-y tart. You make caramel with butter and sugar in a skillet, cook the apples in the caramel, then place a layer of pastry dough on top and bake the whole thing. The hardest part of this tart for me was flipping it out of the skillet onto my cake stand. It was a small miracle that it didn't wind up on the floor. This dessert tasted as good as it looks, and I would make it again in a heartbeat. Maybe with pears next time! One tip that I wish someone would've told me before I made this: when you lay the dough on top of the cooked apples, wait about 30 seconds before you star

However, I cannot rule out the possibility of particular food intolerances in certain dogs and cannot be held liable in this case. The recipes are intended for special occasions. If youre starting to think about Thanksgiving, and searching for a dessert idea thatll really wow your friends and family, look no further. This is the mother of all desserts; you probably already guessed that from the title didnt you? Let me break it down for you the base is a graham cracker crust, which is topped with a layer of sweet caramel and pecans. On top of that youll find lots of caramelized apple slices and then a thin layer of cheesecake. Finally, the finishing touches are added - whipped cream swirled with more caramel and a few pecans for garnish. The Great Cake Company: Sunday Baked: Caramel Apple Cake

... Cue the music Yup. That about sums it up for me this week. Pure heaven. Matt & Renato's little dandy of a cake represents everything I love about this time of year. The perfect blend of spice and sweet and all the flavors of the season. With a single bite, I wanted to throw on my favorite sweater, watch football and go rake some leaves. It is the perfect dessert to usher in the fall and an instant all-time favorite. Yes, it is that good! Before I go into further detail on how delicious this was, I feel as though I should warn you that there are quite a few components to this cake (especially if your making your own applesauce). For me, it was totally worth it, but I image not everyone will feel the same. Using a really good homemade applesauce went a long way in this recipe. I happen t

applepicking

I am a big proponent of photographing food. I dont really love taking pictures of people or events or really anything like that for a few reasons. First, it always cuts into whatever is going on and everyone shifts around so their good side is out and all the fun stops for a second. Second, I barely look at pictures. Third, usually awesome events are accompanied by food, so I may as well just take a picture of the meal we had. But, this aversion to taking pictures of things (uh, people) that arent inanimate objects means that I have no pictures from my amazing apple picking adventure! Which was mostly an adventure in that we werent too too sure where we were going. But, once we (Alice, Liz, Matt, me) got to the orchard it was pretty standard. If your standard is awesome fun with m

Apple Pancake Heaven Dont worry, dessert for breakfast is good for you apparently

I read this article in the smh the other day about a study thats been done which found eating dessert with your breakfast can help you lose weight. Hooray for that I say! Ive never needed a study to tell me its okay to eat cake and biscuits for breaky, Id have a sweet breakfast over a savoury one every day of the week given the choice. This week the little minkeys have been poorly with a cold and weve all been grumpy so the other morning I decided to make these apple pancakes for breakfast with Sun. They distracted him from the snot for a whole 15 minutes and that was reason enough to make them. Theyre really easy, super quick and so heavenly that they can drag me out of the grumpiest of grumps. Pancakes with Caramelised Apple **Makes about 8 small thick pancakes. I like
